Dermatosurgery Gdańsk – Removal of skin lesions
Dermatosurgery – surgical removal of skin lesions
Dermatosurgery, or dermatological surgery, is a dynamically developing field of medicine that combines knowledge of dermatology and surgery. It focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of skin lesions that require surgical intervention – both for health and aesthetic reasons. At Mediss Medical in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, we offer patients safe, precise and effective dermatosurgical procedures, performed by an experienced doctor – Dr. Anna Trybull, a specialist in oncological surgery.
What does dermatosurgery include?
As part of dermatosurgery, various types of skin lesions are removed, such as:
- pigmented nevi (colloquially: moles),
- atheromas, fibromas and lipomas,
- viral warts (warts),
- abscesses, cysts and other inflammatory lesions of the skin.
Thanks to dermatosurgery, it is also possible to surgically treat skin inflammation, collect material for histopathological diagnostics (biopsies), as well as perform reconstructive procedures within the skin, especially in visible places – e.g. on the face or neck.
Why is it important to remove skin lesions?
Not every skin lesion is dangerous, but not every skin lesion can be left unchecked. Lesions that grow quickly, bleed, itch, hurt or change their shape or color should be examined by a specialist as soon as possible. Dermatosurgery allows not only to remove them, but also to carefully examine whether they are cancerous (e.g. melanoma).
In our facility, all excised lesions are transferred for histopathological examination. Thanks to this, the patient receives full information about the health condition and can be sure that the lesion has been properly diagnosed.
The course of the dermatosurgical procedure
The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis – it does not require a hospital stay. It usually lasts from 15 to 30 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia, so that the patient does not feel pain. After the procedure, the doctor applies stitches and gives recommendations for wound care. Most patients can return to daily functioning on the same day.
Recovery usually takes a few days to two weeks – depending on the extent of the procedure and the place where it was performed. In the case of lesions located in visible places, the doctor selects the method of cutting and suturing so as to minimize the risk of an unsightly scar.
When is it worth seeing a dermatosurgeon?
Consultation with a dermatosurgeon is recommended in the case of:
- changes that appeared suddenly and are rapidly growing,
- moles and birthmarks of irregular shape or color,
- warts that persist despite pharmacological treatment,
- lipomas, sebaceous cysts, fibromas or other lesions that are visible or disturbing,
- aesthetic changes – especially in the face, neck or hands.
Consultations should not be postponed – early diagnosis of potentially dangerous skin lesions can save health and even life.
