prof. dr hab. n. med. Jarosław Sławek

Prof. dr hab. n. med. Jarosław Sławek is the Head of the Neurology and Stroke Ward at St. Wojciech Hospital in Gdańsk and the Head of the Neurological and Psychiatric Nursing Department at the Medical University of Gdańsk. In the years 2017-2021 he was the President of the Polish Neurological Society and currently serves as Vice-President. He is a member of the National Council for Neurology at the Ministry of Health and the Secretary of the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders. Together with prof. Z.K. Wszołek from the USA, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Polish Journal of Neurology & Neurosurgery. Prof. Sławek is the author or co-author of over 260 papers in international journals and many chapters in Polish and English textbooks. His special interests in neurology include neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and other parkinsonisms, Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and diseases of the peripheral nervous system (polyneuropathy). For many years he has also been involved in the treatment of dystonia and spasticity with botulinum toxin injections.
