Gynecologist Gdansk
Modern gynecology focuses on comprehensive care for women, including both prevention and treatment of a wide range of diseases. Gynecologists perform regular tests, such as cytology, which allow for early detection of problems related to the reproductive organ. Additionally, they perform diagnostic procedures, such as colposcopy and biopsy, which serve to assess the health of patients and diagnose potential diseases.
All of these services are available at Mediss Medical Clinic, where we emphasize a modern and individual approach to women’s health.

How do we work?
MEDISS MEDICAL CLINIC – YOUR GYNECOLOGIST IN GDAŃSK
Why is it important to visit a gynecologist?
Regular visits to a gynecologist are crucial for every woman’s health. Despite this, many women avoid appointments due to fear, embarrassment, or lack of time. According to the “Women’s Health Prevention” report conducted by Gedeon Richter in spring 2022, 61% of respondents visit a gynecologist regularly, at least once a year, or as per their doctor’s recommendations. A quarter visit once every three years, and 13% do not visit a gynecologist at all. However, prevention and early detection of health problems can prevent serious conditions.
The gynecologists at our clinic specialize in the prevention and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. They provide assistance with menstrual disorders, infertility issues, vaginal infections, reproductive organ cancers, and advice on contraception methods. Every day, our specialists take care of both the health and comfort of patients with full commitment.
When should you schedule a gynecologist appointment?
Every woman should visit a gynecologist at least once a year. Even when there are no symptoms, regular check-ups help assess the patient’s health and catch any irregularities in the early stages.
For young girls, the first visit should take place when menstruation begins and before engaging in sexual activity. It is mainly to resolve any doubts of a growing teenager. Regular visits are essential for all women as they allow for diagnosing various diseases that may not present clear symptoms, preventing further progression. For women in menopause, gynecological visits are necessary to assess the uterus, ovaries, and breasts for cancer and to discuss hormone replacement therapy.
Additionally, women of all ages should visit a gynecologist when experiencing menstrual disorders or lower abdominal pain. Specialized support is also crucial for selecting the right contraception method. It’s safe to say that a gynecologist’s support is needed whenever there are symptoms unusual for a woman. Any unusual or worrisome symptoms in the intimate area should be consulted with a doctor to detect issues early.
What happens during a gynecological appointment?
A gynecologist performs various examinations, one of the primary ones being the gynecological exam on a specialized chair. During this exam, the doctor uses a speculum, a metal or plastic tool that resembles a duckbill, which is gently inserted into the vagina and gradually opened to examine the cervix and uterus. This exam also allows for collecting a sample for a Pap smear. Blood tests, including hormone levels and a complete blood count, are often conducted, especially before prescribing hormonal contraception or addressing menstrual and ovulation issues.
Treatment of gynecological conditions
In cases like vaginal infections, gynecologists typically prescribe intravaginal medication. Hormonal treatments are also commonly used in cases like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), small cysts that can resolve on their own, infertility, and menopausal symptoms (hormone replacement therapy). In some cases, invasive procedures are required, especially for fibroids, large cysts, or uterine polyps, though pharmacological treatments are becoming more common for fibroids.
The most common conditions patients visit gynecologists at Mediss Medical Clinic for include:
- Vaginal infections
- Endometriosis
- Menstrual disorders
- Urinary incontinence
- Painful periods
- Cervical erosion
- Uterine polyps
- Uterine fibroids
- Ovarian cysts
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Uterine retroversion and retroflexion
- Endometrial hyperplasia
- Infertility
- Hormone deficiencies caused by menopause
Why is gynecological screening important?
Gynecological exams aim to detect potential cancers, other diseases, and anatomical abnormalities, bacterial infections, and fungal infections early. Prevention is more effective than treatment, making regular check-ups essential.
Transvaginal ultrasound exam
Transvaginal ultrasound (USG) is one of the key tools in diagnosing female reproductive organs. This exam assesses health, detects abnormalities, and monitors the menstrual cycle. It is essential for diagnosing reproductive tract diseases, cervical, ovarian, and adnexal pathologies.
USG allows for a comprehensive health assessment, examining both superficial and deeper structures. The exam is conducted using an ultrasound machine that uses sound waves to produce images on a screen. At Mediss Medical Clinic in Gdańsk, we offer high-quality gynecological USG exams with state-of-the-art equipment.
Indications for gynecological USG include:
- Early pregnancy identification
- Endocrine disorders
- IUD positioning
- Structural abnormalities of the reproductive organs
- Fibroids, cysts, tumors, endometriosis
- Suspected reproductive organ impairments
- Tumors, bleeding, or injuries
- Lower abdominal pain
The decision to perform USG is made by the gynecologist. The exam is comfortable and has no contraindications. It’s non-invasive and can be a key factor in protecting health, especially in cancer cases where early detection increases the chances of effective treatment.
Gynecologists can perform USG in two ways: with an abdominal probe or a transvaginal probe. Both methods are safe and can be repeated as needed.
Why perform a gynecological ultrasound?
USG detects any changes in a woman’s reproductive organs early, allowing for prompt treatment. During a transvaginal ultrasound, the doctor can accurately assess the bladder, pelvic structure, ovaries, monitor ovulation for infertility treatment, or detect early pregnancy. It is recommended to perform a gynecological ultrasound at least once a year.

Colposcopy is an extremely important tool in the prevention and control of gynecological diseases. Regular colposcopy examinations should be part of every woman’s routine health care, especially after the age of 30. Understanding and being aware of the procedure and the benefits of colposcopy are crucial to maintaining women’s health and preventing the development of serious diseases. Colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure used in gynecology that allows for a detailed view of the cervix, vagina and mucous membrane using a colposcope. The examination is most often performed in the case of abnormal results in the Pap test, which may indicate the presence of abnormal cells or suspected cancer. Colposcopy is a safe and non-invasive examination that involves placing a colposcope on the patient’s intimate area. The colposcope has binoculars that allow the doctor to carefully examine the tissue and identify any changes. The procedure is virtually painless, although it may cause some discomfort associated with vaginal dilation.
The examination usually takes up to 15 minutes. If any abnormalities are observed, the doctor may take tissue samples for further analysis. Colposcopy is helpful in detecting and diagnosing precancerous changes, such as cervical dysplasia, and in monitoring healing after surgical procedures. Findings from a colposcopy can be crucial in determining appropriate treatment and monitoring a patient’s long-term health. Regular colposcopy is especially important for women who have had abnormal results on previous Pap tests or who have risk factors for developing cervical cancer, such as HPV infection or smoking. Modern technologies, such as digital colposcopy, allow for even more detailed examination and archiving of images for further analysis. High image quality, availability of digital documentation, and the ability to compare results with previous tests all contribute to improved diagnostic accuracy and precision.
Informing your doctor about all diseases and ailments is necessary and essential for proper diagnosis and treatment.
