They also perform diagnostic procedures such as colposcopy and biopsies to assess the condition of the reproductive organ and diagnose possible diseases.

Why is it worth making an appointment with a gynecologist at Mediss Medical?

Gynecologists working at our facility deal with the prevention and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. They provide help with menstrual disorders, infertility problems, vaginal inflammation, cancer of the reproductive organs, as well as in choosing the right method of contraception. Every day, our specialists are fully committed to the health, comfort and safety of patients.

When should you make an appointment with a gynecologist?

Every woman should visit a gynecologist at least once a year. Even when there are no symptoms, regular preventive care allows you to assess the patient’s health and detect any abnormalities in the initial phase.

In the case of girls, the first visit should take place when menstruation begins and sexual intercourse is planned. Its main purpose is to dispel any doubts of a growing teenager. All women must remember about regular visits. They allow you to diagnose various diseases that may not have clear symptoms, and thus prevent their development. In the case of women during menopause, visiting a gynecologist’s office is necessary to assess the uterus, ovaries and breasts for cancer and to select possible replacement hormone treatment.

Additionally, regardless of age, every woman suffering from menstrual disorders and/or lower abdominal pain should seek medical help. Specialist support is also necessary in selecting the appropriate contraceptive method. It can be said that specialist support is always necessary when some symptoms are unusual for a given woman. It is worth consulting a doctor in case of any disturbing symptoms in the intimate areas, because this allows the problem to be diagnosed at an early stage.

How does a gynecological visit go?

The gynecologist performs a number of tests, one of the basic ones is a gynecological examination, performed in the office using a special gynecological chair. During this examination, the doctor uses a speculum, which is a tool made of metal or plastic, resembling a duck’s beak. This speculum is gently inserted into the vagina and then gradually opened, allowing viewing of the shield and cervix. This test also allows you to collect material for cytology. Blood tests, including: morphology and determination of the level of sex hormones. These tests are performed especially before a prescription for hormonal contraception is prescribed and in case of problems with menstruation or ovulation.

Therapy of gynecological diseases

For gynecological diseases such as vaginal infections, the gynecologist usually prescribes vaginal medications. Hormonal preparations are used in the treatment of many gynecological diseases, for example in the case of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), small cysts that may be absorbed, infertility and symptoms related to menopause (where hormone replacement therapy, i.e. HRT), is used. In some cases, it may be necessary to refer the patient to more invasive procedures, especially in the case of uterine fibroids, which are often removed surgically (although pharmacological methods are increasingly being used), large uterine cysts or polyps.

The most common diseases with which patients visit a gynecologist include:

  • vaginal infections.
  • endometriosis.
  • cervical erosion.
  • uterine polyps.
  • uterine fibroids.
  • ovarian cyst.
  • polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
  • adnexitis.
  • retroflexion and posterior tilt of the pelvis.
  • hyperplasia of the uterine mucosa.
  • sterility.
  • hormone deficiency caused by menopause.

Why is it worth having a gynecological examination?

Prevention in the field of gynecology is aimed at early detection of potential cancer lesions, other diseases and anatomical anomalies, bacterial infections, fungal infections, etc. It is widely known that preventing the development of diseases is more effective than treating them, therefore it is important to undergo systematic check-ups.

Transvaginal ultrasound gynecological examination

In the diagnosis of female reproductive organs, one of the key tools is ultrasound examination (USG), also called gynecological or transvaginal ultrasound. This test allows you to assess your health and detect possible abnormalities in a woman’s reproductive organs, as well as monitor your menstrual cycle. In many cases, it is necessary to make a diagnosis of pathology of the reproductive tract, cervix, ovaries or appendages.

Ultrasound enables a comprehensive assessment of a woman’s health, including both superficial and deep structures.
The examination is carried out using an ultrasound machine that uses ultrasonic waves and creates an image on the monitor screen. Gynecological ultrasound offered by the Mediss Medical Clinic in Gdańsk is performed using one of the best devices dedicated to gynecology. Thanks to this, the gynecologist has the opportunity to view and assess the woman’s internal reproductive organs, their size, location, surface, shape, interior, and detect any possible abnormalities.

Indications for performing ultrasound in the field of gynecological diagnostics include:

– identification of early pregnancy
– endocrine disorders,
– assessment of the position of the intrauterine device
– diagnosis of defects in the structure of reproductive organs,
– fibroids, cysts, tumors, endometriosis.
– suspected impairment of reproductive organs,
– tumors, hemorrhages or damage
– lower abdominal pain

The decision to perform an ultrasound examination is made by the gynecologist. This examination is comfortable for the patient and does not have any contraindications. It is also non-invasive and often contributes to health protection. It is crucial, especially in the case of cancer, where early detection may increase the chances of effective treatment.

Two methods of performing gynecological ultrasound examination

Gynecologists can use two methods of performing an ultrasound examination: with a probe through the abdominal wall or with a vaginal probe. Both tests are completely safe and can be used as often as necessary.

Why should an ultrasound be performed?

The examination allows for early detection of any changes occurring in the woman’s reproductive organs and quick implementation of possible treatment. During ultrasound with a vaginal probe, the doctor is able to assess with high accuracy: the bladder, the structure of the pelvis, the ovaries and their surroundings, and can monitor ovulation in order to treat infertility or recognize early pregnancy. It is recommended to perform a gynecological ultrasound examination at least once a year.

Badanie trwa zwykle do 15 minut. Wysoka jakość obrazu, dostępność cyfrowej dokumentacji i zdolność do porównywania wyników z poprzednimi badaniami przyczyniają się do poprawy skuteczności i precyzji diagnozowania.
