Sclerotherapy Gdansk
Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive method used to treat varicose veins and spider veins in the lower limbs. The procedure involves injecting a special substance into the affected vein, causing it to close and be gradually absorbed by the body. It is performed on an outpatient basis, without the need for hospitalization. At Mediss Medical, the treatment is carried out by an experienced vascular surgeon. Sclerotherapy is an excellent solution for both cosmetic concerns and symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency.
Sclerotherapy – modern treatment for varicose and spider veins
Sclerotherapy is one of the most common methods used to treat varicose veins and spider veins (telangiectasias). During the procedure, a sclerosant solution is injected into the affected vein, irritating the vessel walls and causing the vein to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body.
Who is sclerotherapy for?
Sclerotherapy is recommended for patients dealing with:
- small to medium-sized varicose veins,
- spider veins (telangiectasias),
- symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency such as leg heaviness, swelling, or aching,
- recurrent varicose veins after previous treatments.
It is an effective alternative for individuals who are not candidates for surgical treatment or who prefer a less invasive approach.
What does the procedure look like?
Sclerotherapy is performed on an outpatient basis and typically does not require anesthesia. The treatment lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. Using a fine needle, the doctor injects the solution into the targeted vein. In some cases, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy (echosclerotherapy) is used to treat deeper veins more precisely.
After the procedure – recommendations and recovery
Patients can return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure. However, it is important to follow specific aftercare guidelines:
- wear compression stockings for a few days or weeks (as recommended),
- avoid prolonged standing and hot baths for approximately two weeks,
- engage in light physical activity (e.g., walking) to improve circulation.
The results of sclerotherapy typically become visible within a few weeks. For more advanced cases, multiple sessions may be required.
