Shoulder Arthroscopy and Reconstructive Procedures at Mediss Medical Clinic in Gdańsk
Shoulder pain, instability, or limited mobility can significantly affect everyday life – from performing simple daily activities to work and sports. Injuries involving the shoulder joint are among the most common orthopedic conditions requiring specialist treatment.
At Mediss Medical Clinic in Gdańsk, we offer a full range of modern arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder procedures designed to restore mobility, eliminate pain, and improve quality of life. Thanks to minimally invasive techniques and the experience of our orthopedic specialists, we help patients return quickly to activity – regardless of whether the injury occurred during sports or as a result of everyday strain.
Types of Shoulder Procedures Performed at Mediss Medical Clinic
1. Shoulder Arthroscopy with Rotator Cuff Repair
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons responsible for shoulder movement and stability. Damage to the rotator cuff may cause pain, limited mobility, and weakness in the arm.
The procedure involves reattaching damaged tendons to the humerus using specialized implants (anchors). Arthroscopy allows this procedure to be performed in a minimally invasive way, reducing recovery time and minimizing the risk of complications.
2. Shoulder Arthroscopy with Anterior/Posterior Labrum Stabilization
The glenoid labrum plays a key role in stabilizing the shoulder joint. Damage to the labrum may lead to instability and recurrent dislocations.
The procedure involves reattaching the detached labrum to the socket of the shoulder joint. This restores shoulder stability and helps prevent further injuries.
3. Shoulder Arthroscopy with LHB Tenotomy/Tenodesis (Long Head of the Biceps Tendon)
Injuries to the biceps tendon cause pain in the front part of the shoulder and limit arm movement.
- Tenotomy involves releasing the damaged tendon,
- Tenodesis involves reattaching the tendon in a different location.
The choice of method depends on the type and severity of the injury as well as the patient’s needs.
4. Shoulder Joint Stabilization Using the Latarjet Procedure
This procedure is used for recurrent shoulder dislocations, especially when there is damage to the glenoid bone. It involves transferring a fragment of the coracoid process of the scapula together with attached muscles and fixing it to the glenoid socket. This restores shoulder stability even in complex cases of instability.
5. Shoulder Arthroscopy with AC Joint (Acromioclavicular Joint) Repair/Reconstruction
Injuries to the acromioclavicular joint often occur as a result of falls or sports injuries. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and a visible prominence of the collarbone.
AC joint repair or reconstruction involves restoring joint stability, most commonly using implants and arthroscopic techniques.
6. Shoulder Arthroscopy with AC Joint Reconstruction Using Tendon Graft
In more severe AC joint injuries, the use of a tendon graft (taken from the patient or from a tissue bank) may be necessary. This allows long-term restoration of proper shoulder function and helps prevent further injuries.
Benefits of Shoulder Arthroscopy
- minimally invasive technique (small skin incisions),
- less postoperative pain,
- faster return to mobility and activity,
- ability to treat multiple structures within the joint during a single operation,
- low risk of complications,
- better functional and cosmetic results compared to open surgery.
Preoperative Diagnostics
Every patient undergoes an orthopedic consultation, during which the doctor performs a medical interview, physical examination, and discusses indications for surgery.
To fully assess the shoulder joint, imaging tests such as X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are performed. Blood tests and an anesthesiology consultation are also required before surgery.
Recovery and Rehabilitation
After surgery, the shoulder is immobilized with a brace or sling. During the first weeks, proper immobilization is essential, followed by gradual rehabilitation. Physiotherapy includes exercises aimed at improving range of motion, strengthening muscles, and preventing recurrence of symptoms.
Close cooperation between the patient, orthopedic specialist, and physiotherapist at Mediss Medical Clinic allows excellent treatment outcomes and a quick return to full mobility.
